[2011-11-20] Following on from our successful “Flash Mob” in May, we were invited to help with the 2011 Christmas light switch-on in the Grand Arcade, and to perform on two other occasions during November 2011, raising over £400 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

[2009-08-01] We are delighted that Leo Tomita has agreed to join us as Chorus Master, starting in September 2009. Leo will take over from Chris Whitton, who left us in July 2009 having been in post for five seasons.

[2009-03-03] Come to King's College Chapel on 21st March for The Bells − one of Rachmaninov’s own favourites of the works he wrote. Soloists include Ben Thapa, previously with crossover band G4, who were runners-up on ITV’s X-Factor. (read more)

[2008-02-01] We are delighted to welcome our new Chairman, Robert Hook. Cambridge born and bred, Rob started out as an engineer then moved into venture capital, and has been very much involved with the rapid growth of technology companies in Cambridge since the early seventies. Currently Chairman of DFJ Esprit Capital Partners – just voted Venture Capital House of the year by the European Venture Capital Association – Rob’s passions are the piano, which he plays as often as he can, fast cars and gardening. Rob and his wife Janet have four children and six grandchildren. Of his appointment, Rob says: “I'm very honoured and excited about my new role with the Philharmonic. The Society has a great history and tradition and I hope I can play a small part in ensuring that it continues to enjoy the leading role in Cambridge's music scene it has enjoyed over the years.”
[2007-09-01] The Society was awarded a grant by The PRS Foundation for New Music (PRSF) for the 2006-7 season, and has been successful in obtaining one for 2007-8 as well. The PRSF is the UK's largest independent funder purely for new music of any genre. Its main aims are to stimulate and support the creation and performance of new music in the UK, and to help this reach a wide audience. The Society gratefully acknowledges their support.
[2007-02-04] The retiring collection at our children's concert on 4th February 2007 raised £253.01 for the Roald Dahl Foundation - thankyou to all those who contributed. The Foundation was delighted with the donation - see their responses here and here.
[2006-09-01] Last year we were sorry to lose Martin West, who is now Music Director of the San Francisco Ballet. For more details see the press release for our 2005 Ely concert, the review in the Ely Standard, and also reports of his new appointment in Playbill Arts and the San Francisco Chronicle (June 2005 and March 2006). We are delighted to welcome Timothy Redmond to be our new conductor. He guested for us in the 2005-06 season (his first concert with us was the Big Brahms Bonanza in October 2005), and is now firmly in the saddle![2005-09-01] The Big Brahms Bonanza - Can you face the music?

[2005-01-01] CONDUCTOR required for September 2006
This long established and highly successful orchestral and choral society is looking for a new conductor to take over from Martin West in September 2006. Known for its innovative programming, the Society gives on average seven concerts per year in local venues including King's College Chapel and Ely Cathedral. The Society also employs a professional leader, a Chorus Master and an accompanist.
