Disney comes to Cambridge
Conductor Tim Redmond and The Cambridge Philharmonic Society bring music and images from the amazing world of Walt Disney to the Cambridge Corn Exchange in a spectacular concert for children of all ages.
On Sunday January 18th 2009, in a special programme combining images from Disney films and a sparkling narration by actor David Timson, the Cambridge Philharmonic Society will perform music from some all-time Disney favourites. Thrill to music from films such as Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Little Mermaid and The Lion King! And to kick off the proceedings the exciting Disney Classics overture includes themes from a host of Disney favourites.
‘Around the world with Disney’, the title of the show, is a new departure for the Walt Disney Corporation, and has been designed so that audiences of all ages can enjoy the luxury of nostalgia, excitement and contentment – three of Disney’s hallmarks. This programme has only occasionally been performed outside the United States, and this will be its first ever appearance in the UK.
And to narrate this spectacular journey, the Cambridge Philharmonic Society welcomes back actor David Timson who previously joined the society in a powerful performance of words and music from Olivier’s Henry V in a programme that took the Society to play at the Rudolfinum in Prague, one of the great concert halls of Europe. The versatile stage actor Timson, who has also recorded numerous plays and audiobooks, and who has acted in many films and TV dramas, is the perfect choice to take an enchanted audience ever further into the magical world of Walt Disney.
Come and join music director Tim Redmond, the orchestra of the Cambridge Philharmonic Society, and narrator David Timson, on a special adventure. Open your ears and feast your eyes - and take the journey of a lifetime!
The performance starts at 3.00pm in the Cambridge Corn Exchange, on Sunday 18th January 2009. Tickets £12 (£40 for a family/group of four) from Cambridge Corn Exchange Box Office, 01223 357851 and online at www.cornex.co.uk.
