Fasten your seatbelts!
Children’s TV presenter Chris Jarvis is coming to the Corn Exchange on January 31 with The Cambridge Philharmonic Society to present a high-octane fun-filled concert for children of all ages.
Ever since he appeared on TV in The Broom Cupboard (with Zoë Ball and Josie D’Arby) all those years ago, Chris has been a favourite with younger viewers, starring in many TV programmes such as Step Inside where he plays Mr Whopple and Wood Lane TV − which he wrote himself. He is one of Britain’s most popular pantomime stars too. A genuine all-round star, he is guaranteed to raise the roof in this ‘Family Concert’ programme.
And what a programme! First of all we are off on a Short Ride in a Fast Machine - a rushing, scary, exhilarating orchestral ride (you’ll need your virtual seatbelts for this!). And then, before you have even had a chance to draw breath it will be time for Three Little Pigs, as re-imagined by master story-teller Roald Dahl. You can bet that Chris Jarvis will make the words come alive before your very ears − and all against the amazing backdrop of Paul Patterson’s spellbinding music.
There’s more music from the Harry Potter films too − music that will thrill anyone who has enjoyed watching Harry, Ron and Hermione battle the forces of darkness as they grow through their school years − and magical excerpts from the music to the TV series Merlin.
(And there will be more surprises, so be prepared!)
And as if that wasn’t enough, giant screens will give the audience a close-up of all those musicians slaving away for their delight! Who’s making that wonderful noise? Watch the screens and you will find out!
With two separate performances on the same day, this is an afternoon of fun and excitement for everyone, with wonderful, funny, and exciting music all cheered on by TV superstar Chris Jarvis and the musical director of the Cambridge Philharmonic Society, Tim Redmond.
So whether you are a mum, a dad, a grandparent or a child (not forgetting cousins, uncles, aunts and anyone else who tags along), this is an afternoon to delight and amuse you as you thrill to the wonderful playing of Cambridge’s premier orchestra and the sparkling presence of one of Britain’s greatest entertainers.
See you there!
